AGILITY
Dog Agility is a sport designed to suit most dogs, from the toy breeds through to the giants. It is currently the fastest growing of all dog sports. Agility is a fast paced and fun sport, which requires a high level of fitness from both dogs and handlers. Dogs must learn to complete obstacles such as tunnels, weave poles, see saws, and A-frames. Obstacle heights are suited to the dog’s height and range from 200 - 600mm.
Agility training is not offered by all clubs, however we do offer it here at Denison. We do require dogs to have completed their first month of Obedience training before joining our Agility training. Dogs of all ages are welcome, we work with each dog’s age and ability. Puppies are not permitted to jump until they are fully grown and their growth plates are fused. However, they can and should begin foundations as early as possible. Larger breeds learn tunnels quicker if they are introduced whilst they are small enough not to have to crouch. There are many helpful behaviours you can teach your puppy as soon as you bring them home, such as watch, nose touch, spin, rewind, tug, and to follow your body movements.
